Don't rely on 'apor' - GES cautions BECE candidates

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned candidates sitting for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) not to engage in any form of examination malpractice, particularly relying on leaked papers, widely known as 'apor.'
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, June 9, 2025, the Director-General of the GES, Professor Ernest Kwaku Davis, stressed the importance of upholding integrity in the examinations.
"Once students are cheating their way through, it's difficult to ascertain how well our education system is performing. I will advise them not to rely or depend on 'apor" or external support," he stated.
Professor Ernest Davis underscored the need for relevant stakeholders to help fight examination malpractices.
"Examination malpractice does not help the system to accurately measure the performance of the students; we need the cooperation of all stakeholders to support us fight examination malpractice. Once students are cheating their way through, it's difficult to ascertain how well our education system is performing.
"So, we are appealing with all to support us to fight examination malpractice. Invigilators and supervisors who are caught aiding exams or practice will be severely punished," he added.
A total of 603,328 candidates, made up of 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 participating schools, will sit for the 2025 BECE slated for Wednesday, 11 June to Wednesday, 18 June 2025.
