Fortnite’s Star Wars-centric season has had some exciting moments, with TIE-Fighter-versus-X-Wing dogfights, lightsaber battles, and Samuel L. Jackson. But a new update Friday takes the cake: Emperor Palpatine has finally entered his disco era.
The update added four so-called “Super Styles” to the skins in this season’s Battle Pass, giving some added flair to Poe Dameron and a few other Star Wars-inspired Fortnite characters. But no one gets a bigger upgrade that ol’ Sheev. Palpatine’s new “Galactic Glow style” gives his otherwise grim visage a level of flair that would make David Bowie blush.
Unfortunately for those with limited time, the new Palpatine look requires hitting level 70 in this season of Fortnite, and you only have until June 7 to pull that off.
If you’re willing to settle for second-prize, this update also added the robot-obsessed General Grievous, who requires a bit less commitment to unlock. Not to dangle the carrot too much, but gaining 28 levels between now and June 7 will unlock Grievous in his Lil Stevie phase:
Today’s Fortnite update also included some other new additions, destined to be available in the in-game shop. A certain wacky Gungan is on the way, as is a fully customizable Mandalorian skin (notably not THE Mandalorian as much as A Mandalorian). And apparently there are some Wookiee feet that’ll also show up in the next week or two.
All that is to say, if you’re a Star Wars fan playing Fortnite, you’re eating pretty well these days.
