Since controversy seems to always be brewing in AAA space, it can be easy to assume that there's very little good going on in video games. That's not the case, though, thanks to successes like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 . It's also important to remember that solid, smaller-scale projects are released all the time, one of them being Death end re;Quest: Code Z

Review: Death end re;Quest 2

Death end re;Quest 2 follows the mold of its predecessor but is ultimately more enjoyable.

Death end re;Quest: Code Z was released today for PlayStation 4 and PS5, offering fans a new look at the characters they love, as well as more of the series' trademark "death ends" to either diligently avoid or tragically stumble into. Also, to help get fans reacquainted with everyone and the situation they're in, developer Compile Heart has released a new character and story trailer. Check it out below!

The story of Death end re;Quest: Code Z is set in the parallel world of DE-1.5, a copy of World DE-1 that was created after the latter world was saved by the heroic Arata Mizunashi, his team and a girl known as Iris. World DE-1.5 was supposed to be a perfect version of World DE-1, wherein everyone had a place and could live a happy life. And it actually was for a time, but now a mysterious group has appeared, bringing chaos and prompting a new hero, Sayaka Hiwatari, to rise up and confront it.

Interdimensional interlopers are the worst, aren't they? They just couldn't keep their issues contained to their own reality, could they?

As they lead their party in Death end re;Quest: Code Z, players will need to navigate deadly dungeons within the Strain Area, a portion of the world that's become filled with dangerous monsters and deadly hazards. It's in the dungeons that players will find the gear and experience they need to challenge the interlopers, but they are just as likely to find trouble or even death instead.

Each move the player's party makes in the dungeons is followed by one from their enemies. Failing to properly take those moves into account can quickly turn a tough situation into a doomed one, causing players to potentially trigger a "Death End" and then have to watch something terrible befall their party. It's not enough to just defeat the dungeon boss either, as players then have to try to get both themselves and their captured friend back out alive.

Outside of dungeon delving in Death end re;Quest: Code Z, players can explore the hub town, stock up on items in the shops, enhance their gear at the Night Owl Café or just visit with Sayaka's friends. Considering the threats they're facing, it's likely that all of these will need to be done regularly if players want to get everyone out alive.

At the moment, Death end re;Quest: Code Z is only available both physically and digitally in North America, but the physical release will also come to Europe on Jun 27. Unfortunately, those wanting to play on PC will have to wait until later this year for its release via Steam.

Those who do choose to play on console also have the option of picking up either the deluxe edition or the limited edition. The deluxe sells for $69.99 and includes a digital art book and soundtrack along with the game. As for the limited edition, it's selling for $89.99 and includes:
