There are many Marvel fans who have had a go at playing Deadpool in real life, and with a reasonably priced costume and an ability to impersonate Ryan Reynolds it is not impossible. Now, fans will get to play the foul-mouthed character in a VR world thanks to a new Meta Quest game being released later this year. For those hoping for some of that Reynolds goodness though, the first trailer revealed that Deadpool will have a new voice in this iteration – that of How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris.
Shortly after the announcement, Reynolds reacted exactly as you would expect - with a comedic social media video in which he "over-reacts" to the news. You can see it below.
For many, Deadpool has become synonymous with Reynolds, with the actor having appeared as the Marvel character across three huge movies and various online promotions, and while this will seemingly continue, the new video game is switching things up by installing Harris as the wise-cracking anti-hero. The good news is that the first trailer - red-band, of course – showcases the same old Deadpool we have come to know and love being very much in play in the new game.
From fourth-wall breaking to chimichangas, and a thumping soundtrack featuring Taylor Dayne’s “Tell It to My Heart,” the trailer is everything you could want from a Deadpool game. Oh and there’s lots of violence and swearing too. Happy days, Peanuts.
The trailer for Deadpool VR teases an action-packed adventure for players to immerse themselves in, featuring plenty of signature Deadpool moments. Whether you want to slice enemies with a sword, blast them in the face with a pistol, or go more elaborate and ram them into rotating helicopter blades, the choice is yours. And, naturally, dying is not particularly an issue thanks to Deadpool’s regeneration abilities – yes, those appendages that are chopped off will grow back before your eyes.
This is not just a retread of a Deadpool movie either, the VR game brings a brand-new story to life. The player will take over control of Deadpool as he “is pulled through a portal to the mysterious Mojo World. Upon his arrival, he immediately sees an opportunity to get filthy rich that sounds too good to be true. Without reading the fine print, he signs a dodgy contract, and then it's off to locations around the Marvel universe to take out some enemies who he says really deserve the horrors players will put them through.”
Naturally, what many people really want to know is when Deadpool will return to screens with Reynolds at the helm for another MCU outing. The actor recently teased that he is working on something at the moment, which he called an “ensemble” piece, but no further details have been released. There are many ways that Deadpool could feature in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, but it is also possible that he may not make another appearance until after the Multiverse Saga ends. All will be revealed in good time, but for those desperate for more Deadpool joy, Deadpool VR will be released sometime later this year.
