Davido could become Osun governor - Ben Murray-Bruce

Former senator and media entrepreneur, Ben Murray-Bruce, has said Afrobeats star Davido has what it takes to become the Governor of Osun State in the future.

He made the remark in a recent episode of his “Common Sense” series, where he spoke about the growing role of entertainers in Nigerian politics.

According to him, “David Adeleke, the global phenomenon better known as Davido, is undeniably an international artist and a true Nigerian superstar.

“He stands as one of Nigeria’s most valuable cultural exports. However, beneath the surface of this music icon lies a side that many may not be aware of.”

Murray-Bruce stressed that Davido’s political strength is rooted not only in his popularity but also in his powerful family background. His uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, is the current Governor of Osun State, while another uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, was the state’s first civilian governor under the Babangida regime.

He said Davido, real name David Adeleke, already possesses the public appeal and political legacy to contest and win if he ever decides to run for office.

“Considering all of these, the thought that Davido himself could one day aspire to become the Governor of Osun State seems more like a potential trajectory,” he added.

The former lawmaker also noted that more entertainers should start eyeing political positions, arguing that their influence, youth connection, and communication skills could revive public engagement in politics.

“In Nigeria, there is a growing sentiment that more entertainers should consider seeking political positions. Their ability to connect with the different demographics could inject fresh perspectives and dynamism into the political landscape,” he said.

Closing his prediction with confidence, Murray-Bruce declared, “Davido, if you run, I predict you will win.”

Davido, 32, who recently released his fifth studio album, “5ive”, has never openly declared interest in running for political office.

However, he has publicly supported his uncle’s campaigns and often speaks about national issues on social media.
