Speaking after a public lecture at Rongo University on Thursday, March 28, Maraga acknowledged that he is consulting with various stakeholders before making a final decision.

Drawing from his experience as the head of the Judiciary, the former CJ noted that leading another arm of government, including the Executive, is not an impossible task.

"I have served before in government. I was the head of one arm of government. There is no magic about being the head of another arm of government," he stated.

Despite the endorsement from youth leaders, Maraga said he has not made a final decision on whether he will run for the top office.

"That request has been made. I am discussing with various stakeholders. I will make a decision, a final decision, and when the time comes we will say whether or not we want to do that. You know, when it comes to an elective position, whoever seeks that elective position should understand, all I understand is that he can make a contribution. And it is because of that confidence that one can make a decision whether or not they can serve," the former CJ explained.

Maraga rallied young people to take a stand against bad governance, urging them to be active participants in shaping Kenya’s future.

Maraga, who is widely respected for his integrity and bold rulings, particularly the historic 2017 Supreme Court decision that nullified a presidential election, provided a glimpse into his leadership that would focus on justice and accountability.

In a sharp critic of President William Ruto’s administration, Maraga condemned what he described as "budgeted corruption", accusing the government of misallocating funds meant for critical national projects.

He pointed to the struggles surrounding the Social Health Authority (SHA), stating that mismanagement had left both citizens and healthcare workers stranded.

"There are major problems in this country. The main one is corruption—budgeted corruption and institutional corruption that is not being attended to effectively. As a result, the country is unable to have enough resources to deal with its challenges," he added.

While he stopped short of directly advising Ruto, he urged the head of state to listen to the public’s grievances.

"I can't advise him, but with what is going on in the country, it would be good if he listened to the public and understood what they are complaining about," Maraga stated.

Elsewhere, Maraga called out the government over the alleged killings of young protesters, demanding justice for the victims.

He condemned the excessive use of force against demonstrators, stating that a civilized nation should not resort to violence against its own people.

Maraga emphasized that the government must protect citizens and ensure accountability for any human rights violations.
