Dangote, Otedola hit Madinah for Dantata's burial
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and businessman Femi Otedola have accompanied the body of late industrialist and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, for burial.
Dantata, 94, died on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. His body arrived in the holy city of Madinah on Tuesday morning, where he will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
His son, Sanusi Dantata, confirmed the arrival via a post on X.
“The body has arrived in Madinah this morning, and the Janazah prayer will be held at the Holy Prophet’s mosque after the Asr prayer,” he wrote. He added that Dantata would be buried at the historic Baqiyya cemetery in the city.
The funeral had been initially scheduled for Monday but was delayed due to documentation issues between the family and the Nigerian embassy.
Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, who is also in Saudi Arabia, confirmed that all arrangements had been completed and the burial would go ahead as planned on Tuesday afternoon.
In a video shared online, Dangote and Otedola were seen sitting quietly together, awaiting the proceedings.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata, a revered elder statesman and patriarch of the Dantata dynasty, was a key figure in Nigeria’s business landscape and a great-uncle to Dangote. His passing has sparked a wave of tributes across Nigeria and beyond.
Dantata had reportedly expressed a desire to be buried in Madinah , a wish his family has now fulfilled.
