In a bid to support government efforts towards achieving food security, Dangote Cement Plc has launched a Farmers Empowerment Programme in Benue State, aimed at creating 50 agricultural entrepreneurs from its host communities. The programme, launched in Gboko Local Government Area, is designed to enable selected farmers produce both subsistence and cash crops in commercial quantities.

Speaking at the launch on Thursday, General Manager, Social Performance, Johnson Kor, described the initiative as “historic and innovative,” noting that it is the first project implemented under the Community Development Agreement (CDA) signed with host communities in December 2024. “Today we are witnessing an historic occasion in our journey of mutual development,” he said, adding that the beneficiaries were drawn from six catchment areas of the local government.

Plant Director of Dangote Cement Gboko, Munusamy Murugan, represented by Head of Production, Engr. Soom Kiishi, disclosed that farmers will be supported with fertilizers, agrochemicals, sprayers, and seedlings. He said the programme will be held annually and complemented by other empowerment schemes, including a Youth Empowerment Programme to train participants in welding, fabrication, and solar installation. Community leaders, including Dr. Ahemen Aondoaver Samuel and beneficiary Kwaghgba Isaac, commended the initiative, describing it as a transformative step toward food sufficiency and community development.
