Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons to Play Regular-Season Game in Mexico City

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has officially announced that The NBA Mexico City Game 2025 will feature the Dallas Mavericks taking on the Detroit Pistons in a regular-season contest. Scheduled for Saturday, November 1st, the game will be hosted by Zignia Live at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. This event will mark the league’s 34th game hosted in Mexico since 1992 and is set to coincide with the country's traditional “Día de Muertos” (Day of the Dead) celebrations for the second consecutive year, promising a unique cultural infusion to the sporting event.

The Dallas Mavericks, who will be playing their eighth game in Mexico, are expected to showcase a dynamic lineup. Anticipation is high for the inclusion of Cooper Flagg, one of the most awaited NBA prospects in years, who is expected to be selected by the Mavericks with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and could be playing one of his first professional games. The team also features established stars such as nine-time All-Star Kyrie Irving. The Dallas Mavericks organization conveyed its pride in basketball's increasing globalization and welcomed the opportunity to represent the NBA and Dallas in Mexico City, emphasizing the city's vibrant atmosphere and the passion of its fans.

The Detroit Pistons will be making their third appearance in Mexico, arriving with considerable momentum. The team recently completed one of the largest year-over-year turnarounds in NBA history, improving significantly in the 2024-25 season to a 44-38 record and making their first NBA Playoff appearance since 2016, where they were the No. 6 seed. The Pistons are led by 2025 NBA All-Star and All-NBA Third Team member Cade Cunningham, alongside a promising young core that includes Jalen Duren, Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, and Isaiah Stewart. Trajan Langdon, Detroit's President of Basketball Operations, remarked, “Playing a regular-season game in Mexico City will be a great experience for our players and coaches, and we look forward to showcasing Detroit Basketball to an international audience and a passionate, growing NBA fanbase.”

The “Día de Muertos” theme will be a central part of the game-day experience, featuring a specially themed basketball court and a variety of in-arena activations designed to engage fans. In addition to the on-court action, the NBA and its partners are committed to community engagement through NBA Cares initiatives, Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA youth basketball development programs for players and coaches, and other interactive fan activities in Mexico City. The event will be supported by a roster of marketing partners, including Emirates, Jordan Brand, Michelob Ultra, PlayStation, and Tissot.

The NBA Mexico City Game 2025 will receive extensive global coverage, airing live in Mexico, across Latin America, and reaching fans in more than 200 countries and territories through television, digital media, and social media platforms. For fans eager to attend, an exclusive ticket pre-sale will occur on Wednesday, July 9, and Thursday, July 10, accessible by registering at www.nbamexicocitygame.mx. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 11. Special ticket packages offering premium access, VIP experiences, and hospitality will also be available for purchase.

The NBA's engagement with Mexico dates back to 1992, when Mexico City first hosted an NBA game. The first regular-season game was played in the city in 1997. Since 2014, these regular-season matchups have become a more consistent feature, with Arena CDMX having hosted 13 such games prior to the upcoming 2025 event. This long-standing relationship highlights the league's commitment to its Mexican fanbase. Raul Zarraga, NBA Latin America Senior Vice President and Head of Operations, expressed enthusiasm for the matchup and the opportunity to again celebrate 'Dia de Muertos' with the passionate fans. Alejandro Arce Saldívar, Director of Zignia Live, stated it was an honor to collaborate with the NBA to bring this premier global sports spectacle to Mexico at Arena CDMX.
