Veteran golfer, Mrs. Grace Ihonvbere, has pledged that the newly inaugurated Board of Trustees (BoT) of the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club will usher in a new era of growth and excellence.

Speaking with Golf Digest, a former Lady captain of the club, popularly known as ‘Lady G’ now serving under the chairmanship of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, President of the Court of Appeal, Ihonvbere expressed full confidence in the board’s ability to elevate the club to global standards.

“I was vying for the club captainship but had to step down because I was appointed as a member of the BoT. So that is another first, as it is an achievement being one of the first ladies to occupy a position in the BoT under the leadership of a justice,” Ihonvbere shared.

“The world is changing and we have women who are immensely qualified to occupy different positions, and I’m thankful to the federal government for appointing me to this current BoT. By the grace of God and the support of all the members, I am sure you all will begin to see positive changes in our great club,” she added.

The expanded BoT was officially inaugurated by FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, with Justice Dongban-Mensem taking over leadership from General I.B.M. Haruna (rtd). New members include Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, S.I. Ameh (SAN), Hamid Abbo, Admiral Victor Adedipe (rtd), Suleiman Adamu, Chief Patrick Chidolue, and Mr. Ikokwu.

In her remarks, Justice Dongban-Mensem thanked the Minister for swiftly addressing recent challenges at the club and reaffirmed the board’s commitment to unity and integrity.

“The importance attached to the club by the government is proper and we shall not disappoint or take for granted the confidence reposed in us. We shall try our best to ensure that all frayed nerves are calmed,” she said.

She also emphasized the club’s potential as a cultural and economic hub, noting its natural beauty, environmental stewardship, and ability to promote Nigeria on the global stage.
