The Association of NGOs (ANGO), the umbrella body of civil society organisations in Gombe State, has launched its 2025-2030 Strategic Plan and commissioned the Savannah Civic Centre, a new hub for civil society activities in the state.

The plan was unveiled during the inauguration ceremony of ANGO’s newly elected officials.

Chairman of ANGO, Bachama Yusuf, said the strategic plan, themed “Advancing the DEVAGOM: Leaving No One Behind”, highlights the critical role of civil society in fostering inclusive development and ensuring that no segment of society is excluded.

He explained that the plan will guide the work of civil society organisations in Gombe over the next five years, focusing on priority areas such as peacebuilding, security, governance, and social protection.

“The commissioning of the Savannah Civic Centre provides a dedicated space for CSOs to operate, collaborate, and implement their programmes. The centre will enhance the capacity of civil society to engage with government, development partners, and other stakeholders, ultimately contributing to the development of Gombe State,” Yusuf said.

He added that the centre is designed to promote fiscal transparency, citizen education, research, and capacity building for CSOs. The facility is equipped with high-speed internet and an e-library to support its mission.

In his remarks, Ahmed Shehu, Chairman of the North-East Civil Society Forum, called on state governments to create special funding windows for civil society groups, enabling them to access grants for community development projects.

He noted that CSOs are well-positioned to identify and address the needs and aspirations of communities.

Also speaking, Salihu Baba Alkali, Gombe State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, acknowledged the vital role of civil society in promoting social justice and citizens’ participation in governance.

He assured that the ministry would continue to collaborate with CSOs for the state’s development.
