CS Ruku launches 59th Huduma Centre in Mogotio

In a major step toward improving citizen access to essential government services, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Geoffrey Ruku has launched Kenya’s 59th Huduma Centre in Mogotio, Baringo County.
Speaking during the official opening, CS Ruku hailed the facility as a game-changer for residents, offering a one-stop shop for public services while easing the burden of long-distance travel to Nakuru, Kabarnet, or Kapsabet.
The Mogotio centre also becomes the first in the country to be fully powered by solar energy, ensuring sustainability and reliability in service delivery, especially in remote areas prone to electricity disruptions.
“This Huduma Centre is a promise fulfilled. It reflects our government’s commitment to inclusivity through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. We are bringing services directly to the grassroots,” said CS Ruku.
The centre, developed through a strategic partnership between Huduma Kenya and the Mogotio NG-CDF under the leadership of area MP Reuben Kiborek, will also house a digital hub to help young people access jobs, online government services, and skills development programs.
CS Ruku used the occasion to rally Kenyans to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program, which is seeing daily uptake of over 50,000 new users.
He emphasised the affordability of the new “lipa pole pole” model in making healthcare accessible to all households.
In addition to service delivery, the CS detailed major government investments transforming Mogotio into a development hub, including: Sh 50 million modern market, Sh 55 million sports academy.
Others are: Sh 1.5 billion Affordable Housing Project, Sh 300 million investment in TVET hostels and Sh 3.5 billion in road infrastructure, with Sh 1.2 billion allocated in the current financial year.
In agriculture and livestock, the area will benefit from a Sh 100 million Mogotio Livestock Institute, a Sh 70 million cereal storage facility in Sirwa, and a Sh 120 million irrigation project in Cheriac aimed at improving food production and security.
On education, CS Ruku highlighted the recruitment of 76,000 new teachers nationwide, with plans to hire 24,000 more before the end of the year.
Taking a firm stance against divisive politics, the CS called for unity and warned leaders against sowing tribal divisions.
“Let no one think they are tribal kings. We must focus on service, not selfish interests,” he said.
Huduma Kenya CEO Ben Kai Chilumo noted that over 60,000 citizens are served daily across all Huduma Centres, which offer 157 physical services and over 22,000 services online. He added that 18 centres now operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the government aims to expand the network to all 290 constituencies nationwide.

“This is more than a building. This is a doorway to equal opportunity, wherever you live,” Chilumo said.
