CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Emergency crews were called to a fire in Clarksburg that damaged a bridge early Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 3:30 a.m. near Peck Street.

Crews from the Clarksburg Fire Department and Clarksburg Police Department arrived to find an old train trestle bridge across Elk Creek on fire.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but officials with the fire department said it was suspicious, and likely caused by someone staying under the bridge at the time.

Officials added that the amount of dry brush near the fire could have allowed it to spread quickly had it not been caught so early.

No injuries were reported and the city fire marshal has been called to investigate the incident, officials said.
