Costco Is Selling A MASSIVE Emergency Food Kit-But There's A Catch

Published 3 days ago2 minute read

Maybe you've always been a disciple of the Boy Scout motto or maybe you've been doing a lot of doom scrolling these days. However you got there, if you've found a particular corner of the internet, you're probably thinking a lot about your emergency supplies. You know, just in case. While you might have your First-Aid kit and cases of water prepped, have you ever thought about food? After all, what does one eat during a major emergency/apocalypse when you can't use an air fryer or your prized collection of Le Creuset? Leave it to Costco to have a smart solution.

Eagle-eyed shoppers have noticed that the mega-wholesaler now sells ReadyWise's emergency food bucket. That's right: A bucket full of food pouches that you can enjoy when you need it the most. Once you select a pouch, just add water, and you'll have a meal with (typically) four to six servings in no time.

Not only does this bundle include 150 servings—that's 25,280 calories if you're counting—but its contents have a shelf life of 25 years. That's longer than most people age a bottle of wine, so the last thing you'll have to worry about is expiration dates.

The question you must be asking yourself (because, honestly, ditto) is, "What kind of food are we talking about here?" We know when an emergency strikes, you ultimately get what you get, and you don't get upset. But is this bucket full of a bunch of beef jerky and beans? Surprisingly, not exactly.

Depending on which emergency kit you purchase, your bucket will be filled with dishes like cheesy macaroni, potato pot pie, and pasta Alfredo. There are also breakfast options, such as granola, cereal, and even pancake mix, so you can still savor the most important meal of the day. The jury's out on whether these dishes will rival anything you'd make at home; however, they do provide the necessary nutrients during a major emergency.

Costco currently sells Readywise's 150-Serving Bundle for $99, which is pretty reasonable considering how much food you're getting. The catch: You'll either need to find it in your nearest location, which can be a feat, or order it online and wait a few weeks. However, if you're craving some peace of mind and want to get your emergency kit sooner, you can also buy one on Amazon. Better safe (and satiated) than sorry, right?
