Cops shielding criminals will lose their jobs: Minister

Gandhinagar: Minister of state for home Harsh Sanghavi chaired a meeting on the prevailing

law and order situation

in the state on Monday. DGP Vikas Sahay, ACS home Manoj Das, and all top officers of the rank of SP and above were present in the meeting held through video conferencing.
Speaking to reporters in Gandhinagar on Monday, Sanghavi said that the

Gujarat police

was acting tough on

anti-social elements

. "The DGP has issued guidelines on the action plan to all units of the Gujarat police. All units have been asked to provide details of policing in their respective units within 100 hours," the minister said.
In reply to a question on some cops shielding anti-social elements, the minister said, "Several agencies are closely looking into this aspect. Cops who are found to be shielding anti-social elements or criminals will lose their jobs," he said.
According to official sources, the minister directed the police department to intensify combing operations and vehicle checking, launch a sustained drive against anti-social elements, and improve investigation and detection of cases. Sources added that these steps would be put into action from Monday night itself.

Sources in the city police said that a list of persons with

criminal backgrounds

was prepared. "A list of about 1,100 persons with criminal backgrounds was prepared and action will be taken against them. Social media is also being scanned to identify persons who have made posts with weapons like guns or knives," sources added.
