A Brookfield policeman suffered multiple injuries in the arrest of a Hermitage man who fought with police March 3 at a home in the 7200 block of Wildwood Drive, where Chad A. Reed had been staying at the time, police said.
Reed, 42, has been charged with felony assault and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and aggravated menacing. Reed’s arraignment was postponed because he caused a “serious incident” in the Trumbull County Jail, and has since been treated at an in-patient, behavioral health center, according to his court docket. He appeared in court April 10 and waived a preliminary hearing, sending the case to a grand jury.
The homeowner asked police to remove Reed, who she said had gone “off his rocker,” had not slept in days and was making negative comments about women, police said. Reed refused to leave, got into a fighting stance and threatened officers, police said. Reed calmed down and an ambulance was summoned, police said. Reed said he would go in the ambulance, but then backed away from it and fought with officers, police said.
During the melee, an unnamed officer landed on the ground on his shoulder and hit his head on the ground, police said. Reed also punched the officer, police said. The officer also suffered hand and knee injuries, police said. The police report makes no mention as to whether the officer sought medical treatment.
