Convocation lecturer gifts millions to LAUTECH best graduates
Six graduates of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, have received a sum of N500,000 each from the guest lecturer of the 17th convocation of the university, Professor Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka.
The graduates finished top of their classes.
Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, the First Nigerian Professor in the field of Development and Industrial Policy, was a lecturer at the 17th Convocation Ceremonies and 35 anniversary of the establishment of the university, which is owned by the Oyo State Government.
He spoke on the topic “Can Nigeria Thrive in Times of Tumultuous and Rapid Technological Changes.”
The six students included the overall best graduating student of the University in the 2023/2024 academic session, Adeduntan Badirat, who had a CGPA of 4.86 in Science Laboratory Technology, and five Engineering graduates.
The Engineering graduands are: Komolafe Teslim Gbolahan with a CGPA of 4.77 in the department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, AbdulRasheed Wasiu, also with a CGPA of 4.72 in Chemical Engineering, and Oladipo Johnson Omoniyi with a CGPA of 4.71in Civil Engineering.
Others are Oyelade Oluwaseun Oluwafikunmi of Computer Engineering with a CGPA of 4.67 and Eniade Miracle Stephen with a CGPA of 4.62 in Mechanical Engineering.
Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, who paid into the students’ individual bank accounts, called on the Federal Government to prioritize the development of the technological strength of Nigerians.
He is the Senior Special Adviser on Industrialisation to the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
