The House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review has announced plans to hold zonal public hearings across the country as it unveiled a compendium of 86 constitutional amendment bills currently under consideration.

Chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, disclosed this during a press conference at the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Kalu said the public hearings will take place in 12 centres across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones from July 11 to 20, with a national hearing scheduled for July 21 in Abuja.

He explained that the hearings are intended to give stakeholders and the public an opportunity to scrutinise the bills, seek clarifications, and offer constructive input.

The 86 bills have been grouped into 13 thematic areas, including Electoral Reforms, Judicial Reforms, Devolution of Powers, Security and Policing, Local Government Reform, Fiscal Reforms, Indigeneship, Fundamental Human Rights, and the Creation of States and LGAs.

He urged the public to download the compendium from www.hccr.gov.ng and submit feedback to guide lawmakers’ decisions when the bills are presented for voting.
