Club World Cup: Supercomputer Predicts Winner Ahead of Quarter-Final
The FIFA Club World Cup has reached the quarter-final stage, and Opta's supercomputer has predicted the winner.
Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Al-Hilal, Chelsea, Palmeiras, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Fluminense are the teams still in the tournament.
The tournament has been exciting, but there are concerns about scheduling and the weather, which delayed Chelsea's match against Benfica in the round of 16.
Despite the challenges, the tournament has delivered drama and entertainment so far. The biggest story has been Al-Hilal eliminating favourites Manchester City in an epic match.
They will face Brazilian side Fluminense in the quarter-final. Meanwhile, Chelsea advanced to the last eight after beating Benfica in a bizarre match.
The game was suspended for nearly two hours due to a severe weather warning. The match raised concerns about next year's World Cup matches.
"For me it’s not football. It’s already seven, eight, nine games that they suspended. I think it’s a joke to be honest, it’s not football. It’s not for us. You cannot be inside. I struggle to understand," Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca told the press.
PSG thrashed Lionel Messi's Inter Miami 4-0 to reach the quarter-finals. They scored four goals in the first half and eased off in the second. They face Bayern Munich, who knocked Flamengo out.
Real Madrid beat Italian giants Juventus to set up a clash against Borussia Dortmund, who defeated Monterrey.
Five of the eight remaining teams are from Europe, two from Brazil and one from Saudi Arabia.
Opta's supercomputer has backed Chelsea to win the title with a 26.79%. The Blues are the only European club on their side of the bracket.
If they beat Palmeiras, they will play either Al-Hilal or Fluminense in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, PSG are the second favourites with a 24.90% chance of winning the tournament. The Champions League winners will face Bayern, who have been impressive at the tournament.
Real Madrid are the third favourites with a 16.94% chance, followed by Bayern, who have 14.83%. Dortmund have a 7.64% chance.
