The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has called on security agencies and government authorities to strengthen their collaboration by providing necessary resources, including hardware, welfare and transportation, to bolster security efforts across Nigeria.
The National Chairman of CJTF, Prof. Mohammed Kailani, made this appeal on Sunday during a national meeting of the organisation.
He emphasised the vital role the group plays in maintaining peace and supporting security forces in addressing crime across the country.
“We need the support of security agencies to eliminate or eradicate all the crimes that have been troubling us in this country,” Kailani said.
He said the CJTF has been actively supporting security operations for the past 17 years, aiding efforts to restore law, order and national unity.
Commending CJTF operatives for their bravery, he said, “When you go into the bush to support security agencies in arresting bandits and kidnappers, you are at the forefront. This is a commendable effort you have sustained over the years.”
Kailani also urged local law enforcement officers, particularly Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, to continue their cooperation with the CJTF.
He compared Nigeria’s security personnel numbers to those of other nations, saying, “The Nigerian Army has about 290,000 personnel, whereas Egypt has over three million. Even when you combine all the security forces in Nigeria, I doubt they will reach three million.”
He called on leaders to support the CJTF with adequate resources so that citizens can feel safe, adding, “We are calling on leaders to support us with hardware, welfare, and transportation so that we can all sleep with our two eyes closed.”
