Civilians Affected by India-Pakistan Border Tensions

Residents in Rajasthan's border areas have experienced anxiety due to recent drone attacks from Pakistan; however, their confidence in the Indian Armed Forces remains strong. The forces successfully neutralized the drones mid-air, preventing any harm and boosting the morale of the local population. Blackouts and alerts were implemented in multiple cities, and suspicious objects were found following the drone activity.
Jaisalmer resident Jalam Singh expressed that the forces' success in destroying the drones mid-air has boosted confidence that attacks from Pakistan will not cause harm. Western Rajasthan experienced a complete blackout, and sirens were sounded multiple times, particularly in Barmer, to alert residents. The first drone attack occurred in Jaisalmer's Pokhran on Friday night, followed by similar attempts in other areas of Jaisalmer and Barmer. The Indian air defense system successfully neutralized these drones, instilling a sense of reassurance among the local population.
Jalam Singh mentioned that his family and many others in the area adhered strictly to the blackout guidelines. Jalam Singh’s wife, Babita, stated that following these guidelines is their duty for their safety. Umesh Acharya, an astrologer and local resident, compared the situation to the restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, where people were confined to their homes, stating that they return home early and stay inside, trusting that the Indian forces are capable of teaching Pakistan a lesson.
Retired Forest Ranger Jaithmal Singh observed that, unlike the fear felt during the 1971 war, there is no widespread panic today due to the prompt action by the forces. He credited the prompt and effective action of the air defense system and the district administration's efforts in alerting people in advance for the current confidence. He recalled the scarcity of information and rampant rumors during the 1971 war, contrasting it with today's access to real-time information through television and mobile phones.
Following the drone activity, suspicious objects were discovered in various locations in Barmer and Jaisalmer on Saturday morning. These objects were found in Baytoo, Balotra, and Badoda village in Jaisalmer. The drones, launched from Pakistan, were intercepted and destroyed mid-air by India's air defense systems. After Friday's attack in Jaisalmer, the blackout in Jodhpur was brought forward and enforced across the city. This alert extended to Barmer, Sriganganagar, Phalodi, and Jodhpur, where similar blackouts were implemented. Pakistan had also launched a swarm drone attack on Jaisalmer the previous night, and attempted strikes were made on airbases in Phalodi, Nal, and Uttarlai on the night of May 7-8, all of which were successfully neutralized.
