Christie Brown Academy holds graduation for 25 participants
The ceremony, which took place at the Marriott Hotel in Accra on Saturday, June 14, also saw the runway exhibition of works by the graduates.
Christie Brown Academy was established by Ghanaian designer, Aisha Ayensu with a mission to empower young African creatives, with a curriculum that prioritises the business of fashion and creative design.
Speaking at the event, Aisha Ayensu, Director of CBA, said the institution is dedicated to meeting participants at the point of their needs, providing them with the necessary tools and expertise to succeed.
“Through the Christie Brown Academy, we are meeting these participants at the point of their needs and bridging the gap between creativity and entrepreneurship in Africa’s fashion industry,” she noted.
She also explained that in a bid to revolutionise Africa's fashion industry, the Christie Brown Academy has embarked on a mission to empower aspiring designers and entrepreneurs.
And that came alive with a fashion show, spotlighting the participants’ original collections which are a reflection of their personal growth, cultural identity, and commitment to innovation.
“CBA is envisioned to become Africa’s leading fashion education institution, developing global talent and contributing to the continent’s economic growth through fashion entrepreneurship,” she added.
Representing the Mastercard Foundation, Nene Diallo, Capacity Development and Mass Entrepreneurship Lead - Pan African Programs, said the partnership is in alignment with the Foundation’s vision to unlock the potential of African youth.
“We are committed to investing in entrepreneurship, skills development and dignified work for young women. These graduates are not just the future, they are the future of African innovation and the creative industry,” she said.
As part of its support for youth-led enterprise, Mastercard Foundation awarded $1,000 seed funding to three outstanding participants, namely Barbara Clement, Mavis Nelson, and Nancy Osei.
