SHANGHAI/HONG KONG -- Travel and consumption in China picked up during the eight-day Lunar New Year holiday that ended on Tuesday, but the data did little to boost investor sentiment amid uncertainty over a tariff battle with the U.S.

Domestic travelers took 501 million tourist trips during the holiday, also known as the Spring Festival, up 5.9% compared to last year, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said on Wednesday. Total spending by domestic tourists rose 7% to 677 billion yuan ($93 billion).
