CDS' wife urges military personnel to support spouses' fitness for stronger families

The wife of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa, has called on military personnel to encourage their spouses to embrace regular physical exercise as a means of maintaining optimal health and fitness.
Mrs Musa gave the advice during DEPOWA’s monthly Health Walk and Aerobics session held in Abuja, emphasizing that physically fit spouses are better equipped to support their partners, resulting in healthier and more productive relationships.

She also encouraged members of military and paramilitary officers’ wives associations to lead by example in embracing wellness practices, which she said would benefit not just the individuals, but their families and wider communities.
Also speaking at the event, President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, highlighted the importance of spousal encouragement in maintaining consistency in fitness routines. She added that such gatherings also promote bonding and mutual support among women.
“Husbands should support their wives’ participation in wellness programs, because when a woman is healthy, the entire household benefits,” she said.
President of Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun, highlighted exercise as a powerful tool for physical and social well-being.
She commended DEPOWA for sustaining the initiative and encouraged inter-agency collaborations on health and wellness programs.
The event concluded with plans to continue the monthly Health Walk and Aerobics sessions and introduce more wellness initiatives in the coming months.
