BURNLEY STATEMENT:

Clarets bolster goalkeeping ranks with Weiß addition

Burnley Football Club are pleased to confirm the arrival of goalkeeper Max Weiß from Karlsruher SC on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Born in Speyer, Germany, the 21-year-old came through TSG Hoffenheim and SV Sandhausen academies before joining Karlsruher SC academy in 2019. Impressing between the sticks, he signed his first professional contract with the Club in 2022.

The youngster went on to become the first-choice goalkeeper for the 2024/25 season, helping the Bundesliga.2 side to an eighth-place finish in a campaign in which he didn’t miss a game.

Internationally, Weiß represented Germany at U18, U19 and U20 levels and will continue his development in Lancashire with Scott Parker’s team.

“I’m really excited to be here. It’s an amazing Club with a big ambition and all the conversations I have had with people from here have been so good and very positive.

“The training ground facility looks amazing, the pitches are so nice and I can’t wait to get in for pre-season and meet the rest of the team.”

KARLSRUHER STATEMENT:

Karlsruher SC’s new strategy is bearing fruit. Max Weiß has joined Burnley FC in the English Premier League with immediate effect. The 21-year-old is the first KSC signing to fully contribute to the new overall sporting strategy.

Max Weiß is a true KSC homegrown talent: He has been through the KSC grenke aKAdemie youth teams since 2019, progressing through the U17 and U19 levels to become the youngest regular goalkeeper in the 2nd Bundesliga. Last season, the goalkeeper, who only turned 21 in June, played every competitive minute for head coach Christian Eichner’s team, and also made two appearances for the German U20 national team. The transfer is a prime example of KSC’s new strategy, which aims to use additional revenue from sports to reinvest sustainably in this area to increase the likelihood of sporting and financial success.

“We view Max Weiß’s departure with both sadness and joy. We would have loved for Max, as a player in our own academy, to remain part of the professional team. Especially after we consciously decided a year ago to make him the number one player in line with our strategy. However, we have always clearly communicated that we will need transfer revenue in the future to gradually achieve our ambitious goals. With this transfer, we have achieved this for the first time as a direct result of the change in strategy. Everyone involved can be proud of that.”

“We knew that an offer for Max could come at any time, and we didn’t want to deny him his big dream of moving to the Premier League. He’s been with KSC for six years, and I completely understand his desire to seize this opportunity now. You never know when a window like this might open again. In our conversation with Max, it was clear how grateful he is to the club and the fans who placed their trust in him a year ago. Max is an example that it pays to be bold in future decisions as well. The search for a successor is already in full swing, and we are confident that we will find an adequate replacement.”

“I’ve been at KSC for six years now and have enjoyed every single moment, culminating in my first season as number 1. I’d like to thank everyone at KSC for the trust they’ve placed in me and for the great time.”

“Max is moving to the best league in the world, which is a great confirmation for him and for us at KSC. This transfer shows what is possible here at KSC. We wish him all the best.”

Karlsruher SC would like to thank Max Weiß for his commitment and performance in the KSC jersey and wishes him much success in his future endeavors!

@JohnFau07060222: All other clubs are years behind our signing media drops. Who was it telly tubbing 3 yrs later earlier this window? and that was maybe our poorest one.

@John_Berry95: And here we go with the wild delusion that this will be a fantastic season and we’re going to not only stay up but sneak a European place! #TwitterClarets
