Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains a loyal member of the ruling party.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, on Thursday, Buhari distanced himself from speculations regarding his position on recent political realignments, stating that he would never abandon the party that gave him the platform to serve as Nigeria’s leader for two terms.

“I am an APC member, and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularise the party by all means,” Buhari declared.

The former president’s remarks come at a time when the APC is witnessing significant internal shifts, including the defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai’s move has sparked speculation, with some suggesting he had Buhari’s blessing.

However, Buhari’s statement underscores his continued allegiance to the party he helped build.

He expressed gratitude for the APC’s support throughout his presidency, describing it as “the highest honor” and emphasizing that he seeks nothing more in return.

Buhari also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the founding fathers of the party, stressing the importance of preserving the APC’s role in upholding democracy and constitutional governance.

“The pains taken by the founding fathers of the party to establish a strong party to protect our constitution and democracy as a system of government are worthy sacrifices that should be cherished and nurtured,” he said.

His statement is expected to reassure party faithful and stakeholders about his position amid ongoing discussions on the party’s future direction.
