Buhari Claims He Left Office with Same Assets He Had Before

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he left office with the same physical assets he possessed upon assuming office on May 29, 2015. Buhari made this declaration during a meeting with members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) at his residence in Kaduna.

According to a statement issued by Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the former president urged the PGF members to adopt a citizen-centric approach to governance. He emphasized that leadership presents both challenges and opportunities, and that effectively balancing these two aspects would significantly contribute to national progress.

Buhari expressed his confidence in the progress being made by the governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform. He reiterated his call for their continued dedication to the advancement of the nation.

The former president also expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for undertaking the renovation of his home in Kaduna. He noted that while the external appearance of the building remained largely unchanged, significant improvements had been made to the interior.

Buhari thanked the governors for their visit, acknowledging that while he had collaborated with several of them during his tenure, some were relatively new to him.

The Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, stated that their visit was to pay respects to Buhari on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr. He added that they aimed to “convey our heartfelt expression of gratitude and enduring respect for your immense contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and strengthening our party.”
