Buducnost outplayed Studentski Centar in the previous round on what was technically an “away” court, in an extremely high-scoring game that ended 105–99. With that win, Andrej Zakelj’s team stayed tied with Partizan for the top spot in the standings, holding a 23–3 record with four rounds left. Now, against the current runner-up of the competition, they have a chance to likely secure first place at the end of the regular season and gain home-court advantage for a potential ABA League final, if they make it that far.

Buducnost has been playing exceptionally well this season, and the best proof of that is their victories over both Partizan and Crvena Zvezda on the road. They’ve clearly earned their current comfortable position and seem to be on track for one of the best seasons in the club’s modern history. All of this is happening thanks to excellent coaching by Andrej Zakelj, who has put everything together perfectly, though he rarely gets the recognition he deserves. McKinley Wright is the team’s leader, while the unsung hero is Nikola Tanaskovic, who does absolutely everything. Rasheed Sulaimon, Kenan Kamenjas, and others are also playing important roles. From the inside game to the perimeter, Buducnost is well-covered in all areas.

Partizan, on the other hand, lost to Real Madrid 91–89 in their last EuroLeague game at home, finishing the elite competition with a 16–18 record in 12th place—disappointing, despite Zeljko Obradovic having overhauled the entire roster and needing time to build team chemistry. Now they face a crucial ABA League clash, where they also stand at 23–3, but having already lost to Buducnost in Belgrade, they can’t afford another defeat in Podgorica if they want home-court advantage in a potential playoff final.

Partizan has struggled with form lately, mainly because they haven’t found a solid backup for Carlik Jones at the point guard position, and Jones himself hasn’t shone when it mattered most. On the contrary, he’s had some rough stretches, losing the ball at crucial moments—just like he did against Real Madrid. While Partizan did show signs of improved form in that game, there’s still a question of whether that was due to a favorable matchup, since Obradovic traditionally knows how to exploit all of Walter Tavares’ weaknesses.

Buducnost won 97–90 on the road in the only matchup between the two teams this season, while Partizan leads 3–2 in the last five games.

Andrija Slavkovic and Aleksa Ilic might miss the game for Buducnost, though Rasheed Sulaimon is expected to return after a short absence. Partizan is expected to be at full strength.

After being eliminated from the EuroCup, Buducnost has had seven days to prepare for each ABA League game, which is a big advantage in such a tight finish to the season—especially compared to Partizan, who had to play in the EuroLeague in the meantime. On top of that, the black-and-whites have traditionally struggled to win in Podgorica, and considering how strong the home team has been this season, it’s clear that Obradovic’s squad is in for a tough challenge.
