Auburn Tigers head coach Bruce Pearl was not afraid to let everyone know who the best conference in college basketball was on Friday.
Auburn advanced to the Elite Eight after taking down the No. 5 seed Michigan Wolverines 78-65 at State Farm Arena. The Tigers have now made three appearances in the Elite Eight in program history.
After the win, Pearl and some of his players were interviewed. Pearl started to talk about how great the SEC has been in the NCAA Tournament before he and his players began an "SEC" chant.
The Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee Volunteers and Florida Gators are also in the Elite Eight.
"How about the SEC? Pearl asked. "S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C!"
The SEC made history by having the most teams from one conference in NCAA Tournament history, with 14 programs chosen on Selection Sunday.
The Arkansas Razorbacks, Vanderbilt Commodores, Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, Georgia Bulldogs, Kentucky Wildcats and Missouri Tigers all got in.
The Big East set the previous record in 2011, with 11 teams making the tournament.
The SEC was not content with its turnout on Selection Sunday, with seven teams reaching the Sweet 16. The last time one conference came close to having that many teams in the Sweet 16 was the ACC in 2016 with six.
Johni Broome led Auburn in scoring, finishing the game with 22 points. He also had a double-double with 16 rebounds.
Denver Jones and Tahaad Pettiford both had 20 points when the final buzzer sounded.
After taking down Michigan, Auburn's next opponent will be from the same state. The Tigers face the No. 2 seeded Michigan State Spartans in the next round.
Tipoff is live on Sunday from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
