Dick Vitale Shares Message to Auburn's Bruce Pearl After Final Four Berth
Dick Vitale could not be more excited for Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers.
The No. 1 seed Tigers and Pearl roared into the Final Four on Sunday evening, overcoming a resilient No. 2 seed Michigan State Spartans squad with a 70-64 victory in the Elite Eight. The win solidified Auburn’s place among the nation’s elite, capping a season where they’ve consistently proven themselves as one of the best teams in college basketball—despite a late-season skid that had doubters questioning their staying power.
For just the second time in NCAA Tournament history, and the first since 2008, all four No. 1 seeds have advanced to the Final Four. Auburn now sets its sights on a Saturday evening showdown with the Florida Gators, a matchup that promises high stakes and SEC bragging rights.
This marks only the second time in Auburn basketball history that the Tigers have reached this stage, with both appearances coming under the leadership of Pearl.
Pearl’s squad showcased its dominance against Michigan State, led by star big man Johni Broome, whose performance left ESPN broadcaster and former college coach Vitale singing his praises. The legendary broadcaster also shared a message of congratulations to Pearl.
“Tip hat to [Bruce Pearl] – the big stars love the big stage [Auburn‘s] JOHNI BROOME was fab vs. [Michigan State] led Tigers to W 70-64 vs Spartans scored 25 & had 14 rebs. Final 4 is CHALK CITY BABY ! 1st time 4 # 1seed’s since 2008! Congrats Tom Izzo for a great yr,” Vitale exclaimed postgame.

Final 4 is CHALK CITY BABY ! 1st time 4 # 1seeds since 2008 ! Congrats Tom Izzo for a great yr.
Broome’s 25 points and 14 rebounds underscored his status as a force to be reckoned with, carrying Auburn through a hard-fought battle against a Spartans team coached by the legendary Tom Izzo.
The Tigers’ journey to San Antonio has been a testament to Pearl’s revitalization of the program.
After claiming the SEC regular season title, Auburn entered the NCAA Tournament with momentum, silencing critics who pointed to their pre-tournament struggles. Meanwhile, their Final Four opponent, Florida, secured the SEC tournament championship, setting the stage for a clash of titans. The two teams met earlier this season on Feb. 8, with Florida prevailing 90-81 in Auburn’s own backyard.
Saturday’s rematch offers the Tigers a chance at redemption.
With the Final Four tipping off at 6:09 p.m. ET on CBS, Auburn and Florida will battle not just for a spot in the national championship game, but for supremacy within the SEC. For Pearl and his Tigers, this is more than a game—it’s a chance to etch their names deeper into Auburn lore.
As the stage grows bigger, so too does the spotlight on Broome, Pearl, and company, who have proven time and again that their best basketball is very much ahead of them.
