Brian May Coachella

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival witnessed a truly unforgettable moment as singer-songwriter Benson Boone shared the stage with legendary Queen guitarist Brian May. The surprise collaboration, coupled with Boone's announcement of his forthcoming album, 'American Heart,' made his Coachella debut a standout performance of the festival's opening night.
Brian May, just seven months after recovering from a minor stroke that temporarily impaired his left arm, proved his enduring musical prowess. The 77-year-old rock icon joined Boone for a mesmerizing rendition of Queen's timeless classic, "Bohemian Rhapsody." May's presence on stage was a surprise to many, amplified by his earlier social media posts hinting at a possible collaboration. "Look who I bumped into - on the way to the fabled Palm Springs ... Maybe something will happen ?!?" May teased on Instagram, alongside a photo with Boone.
The collaboration wasn't limited to the Queen classic. May also accompanied Boone on a performance of Boone's own hit song, ‘Beautiful Things.’ The mutual admiration between the two musicians was evident, with May posting a heartfelt message about Boone: "Gonna treasure this moment on the plane with @bensonboone - a truly golden 22 year old prodigy. I'm proud and happy to say we are now officially pals."
Adding to the excitement, Boone used his Coachella platform to announce his second album, 'American Heart,' slated for release on June 20, 2025. "I’ve got one more announcement to make," Boone told the enthusiastic crowd. "This is less like one song and more like 10. My second album will be coming out June 20, 2025, and it is called ‘American Heart.’" He then treated the audience to a performance of the album's title track, offering a glimpse into the new album's sound.
In an earlier interview with Rolling Stone, Boone described 'American Heart' as having a "Bruce Springsteen, Americana, like a little more of a retro vibe." He emphasized his strong belief in the project, stating, "It all started with me believing in the song 'Beautiful Things.' Now, I have a whole album just about ready to go — and I've never believed so much in a body of work."
May's surprise Coachella appearance marks a significant milestone in his recovery journey. Following his stroke, the guitarist shared his initial concerns about his ability to play again. "I’m here to bring you first of all some good news — the good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days," May revealed in a social media update. "I say this because it was in some doubt… that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they called it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden — out of the blue – I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary."
His triumphant performance at Coachella served as a testament to his resilience and dedication to his craft. This also follows May's heart attack in 2020, where he had three stents inserted to treat blocked arteries. He expressed gratitude for his health, acknowledging he
