The lawmakers suggested that the internet providers must block access under the new directive.
Dalhatu Tafoki, an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker from Katsina state, sponsored the motion, calling it a step to “protect societal values.”
The lawmaker cited findings from psychological studies warning against the inimical implications of pornographic and obscene materials and noted that several countries had banned pornography.
Mr Tafoki stated:
“Renowned psychologists and sociologists worldwide have issued strong warnings about the psychological, sociological, and mental consequences of consuming pornographic content.’’
As reported by The Cable, the motion was subsequently supported by other lawmakers who stressed the urgent need to safeguard the country’s rich social and moral values.
The directive, if eventually implemented, would greatly affect swathes of young Nigerians who take solace in several pornographic platforms, some of which are OnlyFans, Pornhub, XVideos and Allaccess, to make ends meet.

In another development, Legit.ng reported that the Nigeria Communications Commission has said the telecom players refused to purchase its 5G license.
Other than the two biggest players, MTN and Airtel, the others did not appear to have plans to buy into the 5G infrastructure soon, and this was why the NCC failed to meet its 2024 revenue target.
The NCC CEO also gave insights into the plans to introduce a 6G spectrum license soon and noted that it will boost revenue.
