This was after a 19-year-old student gave birth and abandoned her newborn baby in a pit latrine before walking back to class.

According to a post on Facebook, the young woman, a Form Four student at the institution, returned to class after delivering her baby, seemingly unbothered, and continued with her studies.

Chepalungu Sub-county Police Commander Phanton Analo confirmed the incident, stating that the school principal reported the matter to the police station.

Analo noted that the young mother was bleeding excessively while seated in class, prompting her fellow students to raise the alarm and call for help.

The teacher on duty rushed to the class and discovered that the student had not informed anyone that she had given birth in the latrine.

The principal then mobilised staff members and members of the public, who worked together to rescue the newborn from the school latrine.

Both the mother and child were rushed to Sigor Sub-county Hospital and later referred to Longisa County Hospital for further treatment.

Kenyans expressed mixed reactions, with some sympathising with the girl, saying she might not have known she was in labour.

Anthony Matinez:

"Teachers and parents should be very careful. This is the life of two people that was put in danger."

Felix Kim Maorwe:

"I can’t imagine what she went through all alone in the toilet. That baby is destined for greatness. No one can take your destiny away."

Asunta Njeru:

"The strength some girls have is admirable. I remember convincing myself that if young girls could give birth like it was nothing, my turn would be smooth because I’d be older and stronger—only to end up in theatre after dancing to the Luhya song Mundu Mulosi for two days straight. Congratulations, young girl. Ensure you do not drop out of school."

Eve Mso:

"She didn't know she was in labour. You people are so judgemental."

Nevo Anfield:

"She probably thought she just needed to relieve herself, not knowing the baby was coming. This happens to young women who haven't experienced labour pain before. I once had a woman in a labour room tell me she needed to use the toilet, and I just told her, 'Just go ahead right there on the bed; I'll clean it up.' She was so surprised and shy. In this case, I believe she had no idea she was about to give birth."

In other news, reported that a woman from Juja High Point in Kiambu abandoned her child next to a road in the area.

She left a note inside the baby’s clinic book, asking the child to find her someday after he became an adult.

Despite the shocking nature of the incident, a well-wisher took in the child after the incident was reported to the police.
