The Nairobi Hospital has firmly disputed the selection of University lecturer Herman Manyora as the Chairman of the Kenya Hospital Association (KHA).

This comes after a letter claimed that a board meeting was convened on Monday to oust Dr. Barcley Onyambu as KHA chairperson, a motion said to be passed unanimously in favour of Manyora.

"Dr. Agnes Gachoki proposed Professor Herman Manyora to be elected to the office of Chairman of the Board of Management of the Kenya Hospital Association T/A The Nairobi Hospital. Professor Timothy Byakika seconded," reads part of the letter.

"There being no other proposal, Professor Herman Manyora was elected as the new Chairman of the Board of Management of the Kenya Hospital Association T/A The Nairobi Hospital unopposed."

In a swift rebuttal, the Nairobi Hospital termed the letter as fake, adding that there was no meeting held on the reported date.

"For the avoidance of doubt, all official communication concerning board matters is solely notified through the office of the Company Secretary and that remains the position," Nairobi Hospital said in the letter signed by Dr. Onyambu.

KHA oversees the management of Nairobi Hospital, and the Association's chairperson automatically becomes the Hospital’s board of management chairman.

In 2024, KHA sought to oust more than 10 directors from the board, citing a loss of confidence in their leadership, which led to the ousting of chairman Chris Bichage.

Bichage has challenged his removal from office in court, arguing that his removal and demotion not only undermined the independence and operational integrity of the premier hospital but also jeopardised the interests of its members and the institution's subscribers.

He was first elected to the position in 2023 for a one-year term which was extended for another year at the hospital's annual general meeting on December 4, 2024.

He said a notice dated March 10, 2025, was sent to board members and he arrived at the meeting to find that he had already been dethroned.
