Black Stars midfielder Michael Baidoo joins Qatari side Umm Salal - MyJoyOnline
Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo has completed a move to Qatari Stars League side Umm Salal SC.
The 26-year-old joins the Doha-based club from English side Plymouth Argyle following their relegation to League One.
Baidoo had joined Plymouth last season from Swedish outfit Elfsborg, where he impressed over two seasons with his performances and goal-scoring instincts from midfield.
Baidoo made over 60 appearances for Elfsborg, becoming a key figure in their Allsvenskan campaign and attracting attention from clubs across Europe and the Middle East.
However, things didn’t work out for him in the English Championship where he managed just 13 appearances across all competitions for the club.
His switch to Umm Salal comes as the club continues to bolster its ranks ahead of the 2025/26 QSL season, with an eye on improving last season’s mid-table finish.
The deal is reported to be a season-long loan, though financial details remain undisclosed.
Having started his professional career at Vision FC in Ghana before stints in Norway and Sweden, Baidoo’s move to Qatar signals a new phase in his development and adds to the growing list of Ghanaian players plying their trade in the Gulf region.
