Bill Gates lists three jobs safe from AI - and they pay very well - NewsBreak

Published 5 hours ago3 minute read

Tech billionaire Bill Gates believes three well-paying jobs will be able to withstand the increasing dominance of artificial intelligence (AI). Gates, 69, is known for revolutionizing the world of technology when he co-founded Microsoft in 1975. He has now issued a stark warning about the increasing use of AI in the workplace.

The businessman warned many workers will have to "adapt" to a future where AI isn't just a tool but a competitor for jobs. And while he says there are some obvious roles that would be safe - such as athletes - there are three in particular that will be safe, reports the Business Standard.

Gates predicts AI won't be able to replace programmers, energy experts, and biologists. Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, he said: "So there'll be some things that we reserve for ourselves, but in terms of making things and moving things, and growing food, over time, those will be basically solved problems."

Gates believes programmers, who earn around $99,700-a-year according to US News, will still be needed as we continue to introduce AI into the workplace. This, he says, is because AI lacks the precision to write proper code.

He believes programmers will still be needed to refine, debug and advance. Gates says the energy sector is too complex for AI to handle on its own.

Although he believes AI can provide analysis in the field of energy, Gates says human decision-making will be irreplaceable. According to Indeed, energy specialists can earn up to $120,000 depending on their location.

Finally, the billionaire says AI is yet to master the skills needed to assist biologists. While it can analyse data sets and help in disease diagnosis, Gates says it lacks the ability to form a hypothesis.

According to Indeed, the average senior biologist in the US earns around $78,000 each year. The average yearly salary across the United States is around $66,000.

It's not only jobs that Gates thinks will change due to AI, he believes it could change the entire working week. Speaking to Fallon, he said: "It solves all these specific problems, like we don't have enough doctors, enough mental health professionals, but it brings with it so much change.

"What will jobs be like? Should we just work two or three days a week? So I love the way it will drive innovation forward but it's a little unknown if we'll be able to shape it, so people are like, 'wow, this is a bit scary'."

Having launched Microsoft almost five decades ago, Gates is now among the richest people on earth, with a staggering net worth of around $115.1 billion. Elon Musk, the world's richest man is said to have a net worth of around $424.7 billion, reports Forbes.
