Big 12 Basketball Weekly Award Winners Set to Face Off on Tuesday
On Monday, two players from the Big 12 Conference took home weekly awards thanks to their impressive play in the past two games.
Kansas State’s took home Big 12 Player of the Week, while Arizona’s earned Big 12 Newcomer honors. Conveniently, the pair of Wildcats will see each other on the basketball court in just 24 hours.
N’Guessan and the Wildcats host No. 13 Arizona at the Octagon of Doom on Tuesday, February 11th, at 7:00 p.m. central. The matchup marks the second-straight Top 25 opponent to make the trip to the Little Apple, following Kansas’ 73-81 loss on Saturday in the Sunflower Showdown.
Senior forward David N’Guessan has been sensational in the Wildcats’ five-game winning streak, averaging 14.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game on 62.3% shooting from the field. In his last two outings, wins against Arizona State and No. 16 Kansas, N’Guessan provided some of his best scoring numbers of the season, with 22 points and eight rebounds, followed by 20 points and seven boards against Kansas.
Arizona’s Tobe Awaka has made a name for himself in recent weeks, averaging a near-double-double in just 19 minutes per game. The New York native was instrumental in Arizona’s wins over BYU and No. 13 Texas Tech, with 14 points and nine rebounds vs. the Cougars and 14 points and 11 boards against the Red Raiders.
N’Guessan and Awaka will face off at Bramlage Coliseum in an exciting matchup featuring two of college basketball’s hottest teams.
