According to the 2023-24 assessment, authorities identified more than 1,500 such structures across Berasia Road, Budhwara, Jahangirabad, and Hamidia Road areas. Amongst these, 242 buildings were categorised as severely dangerous.

BHOPAL: Stuck in the mire of delays owing to pending approvals, ownership disputes and bureaucratic neglect of the like, several ageing structures in the walled city areas of Bhopal were identified as compromised buildings.
According to the 2023-24 assessment, authorities identified more than 1,500 such structures across Berasia Road, Budhwara, Jahangirabad, and Hamidia Road areas. Amongst these, 242 buildings were categorised as severely dangerous.
Legal complications have stalled widespread demolition of these structures. Despite cautionary notices being issued, especially pre-monsoon, some of these buildings remain inhabited and unaltered owing to pending approvals or ownership disputes.
Recently Bhopal municipal commissioner (BMC) Harendra Narayan, directed zonal officials to conduct fresh evaluations of deteriorating buildings and update the civil cell.
The ongoing 2025 survey remains to be in public domain, with the catalogue of vulnerable structures as monsoon is around the corner. Localities including Peer Gate, Jumerati, Iqbal Maidan and Itwara, housing numerous century-old structures, face significant risks during monsoons.
Ward 40 presently holds the largest concentration of structurally unsound buildings, as per BMC. Besides school education department has also identified 45 govt school buildings requiring immediate repairs.
And over 180 schools in Berasia and Phanda face regular flooding issues. Authorities have begun inspecting all schools, both govt and private.
