Mike launched CCM in secret, writing, producing, and mixing the music entirely on his own. He played nearly every instrument himself, collaborating only with a select group of NYC musicians and visual artist Hannah van der Weide, who helped craft CCM's animated world.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I love Cheez-Its (unsurprising claim to anyone who knows me well), I have never once done Karaoke (extremely surprising to anyone who knows me well), and I always finish what I sta . . .
How would you describe your music?
If Princess Mononoke took edibles.
Who are your musical inspirations?
As far as Ciao Ciao Marigold goes, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Khruangbin, Here We Go Magic, Mid-Air Thief, Nick Hakim, Unknown Mortal Orchestra. The list goes on of course.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
It was a Gloria Estefan show at some point in the 90s. She was on an arena tour at that point and my parents brought me along. Literally all I can remember is that it was way too loud. I couldn't handle it and asked to leave pretty quickly lol. I love Gloria Estefan and there is no disrespect meant to her music. I probably would've acted the same way for any arena show. And you know what's funny is I haven't changed at all. Everything just feels too loud to me. I carry ear plugs with me and wear them at concerts and other events. You'd think that my ears would acclimate to this loud, chaotic world we've built, but they're just kinda wired wrong and everything always sounds too harsh.
What was the first record you ever bought?
I'm not 100% positive but I believe it was the tape cassette of Jagged Little Pill. If not that, it was very possibly a Seal cassette.
What’s your favourite song right now?
I'm in a very serious Frank Ocean phase right now. It's a moth-to-flame situation with me and Nights - I'm circling, circling, getting closer and closer, warmer and warmer.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"Come on, shake your body baby, do the conga, I know you can't control yourself any longer, Feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger, Don't you fight it till you've tried it do the conga beat" - Conga by Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Whatever catastrophic event that leads to such a twisted circumstance, I can only hope that I'm somehow left with a Joni Mitchell song.
Where can people find your music/more information?
On YouTube and Spotify. Come hang.
