"Be Bold, But Not a Bully" - Ahiafor Drops Cryptic Post After Tense Vetting Session

Bernard Ahiafor, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairperson of the Appointments Committee, has stirred public interest with a cryptic social media post after a heated series of exchanges with the committee’s Ranking Member, Alexander Afenyo-Markin as reported by Ghana Web.

The tension started during the vetting of seven Supreme Court nominees put forward by President John Dramani Mahama.

The three-day vetting session, held between June 16 and June 18, 2025, was marred by frequent clashes between the two MPs.

Disputes often erupted when Ahiafor, wielding his authority as chairman, halted what he considered “inappropriate” lines of questioning from Afenyo-Markin.

Though the Minority Leader occasionally accepted the rulings, he was visibly frustrated, accusing the chairman of bias.

Their disagreements reached a peak on the final day of the vetting when Afenyo-Markin cautioned Ahiafor that he would eventually face similar treatment when political dynamics shift.

“I pray for patience,” Afenyo-Markin stated, voicing his dissatisfaction with what he viewed as partial conduct by the committee chair.

In what appears to be a subtle response to the friction, Ahiafor took to Facebook after the vetting session, sharing a quote by motivational speaker Jim Rohn:

“The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not a bully… be confident, but not arrogant.”

The post was accompanied by an image of him at the committee hearing.

Ahiafor remained resolute throughout the sessions, asserting that he is “a man of indomitable spirit and cannot be intimidated”.
