BCCI Secretary Saikia: News of India Pulling Out of Asia Cup is Speculative

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refuted speculative reports claiming that India is withdrawing from the Men's Asia Cup and Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup. According to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, the board has not discussed the matter, dismissing the news as purely speculative and imaginary.

A media report suggested that the BCCI would not allow Indian teams to compete in the two Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events due to the ACC being headed by a Pakistani official, particularly in light of recent military conflict between the two nations. Pakistan's interior minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also chairs the PCB, holds the position of President in the ACC.

India is the defending champion and host for the Men's Asia Cup, scheduled to be played in the T20 format in September, while Sri Lanka will host the Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Saikia clarified that the BCCI has not taken any steps or even discussed non-participation in the upcoming ACC events.

Currently, the BCCI is focused on the smooth conduct of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the upcoming five-match Test series against England, beginning next month. Saikia emphasized that the Asia Cup matter and other ACC event issues have not been discussed at any level within the BCCI.

The BCCI has stated that any important decisions regarding ACC events will be announced through the media at the appropriate time, following internal discussions.
