What started as peaceful protests in several towns in the country have turned into confrontations between the police and citizens.

Nairobi CBD was turned into chaos as running battles ensured between police and the citizens, something that many thought would be avoided.

In a video that has gone viral, two baddies could be seen sitting on a staircase at a building in the CBD when they were approached by police officers.

They stood up and started walking away as the crowd of officers followed them, trying to intimidate them.

Seeing this, Wafula moved closer to the ladies, seemingly sensing trouble, and in no time, a policeman approached the ladies and tried to strangle one of them using his whip.

He quickly went and stopped the policeman, who was also confronted by a colleague as the ladies made a run for their lives.

The policeman could be seen grinning in delight, feeling like his talk was archived, but the ladies ensured they spoke their minds.

From a distance, one of them shouted at officers, asking what they had done wrong and the reason for harassing them.

She stated that the two were just sitting on the staircase, harmless and not even protesting, but were still attacked, with the police ensuring to instil fear in them.

"What's the problem? We are seated there and come to disturb us. Kujeni mniue," she said.

Here are some of the reactions from netizens after watching the clip:

@lewisjoe00 said:

"Did he realise he was on camera, why is he smiling."

@WambuguKanyi said:

"That camera saved the day. That smiling ugly cop should be ashamed of himself. Am sure he is a parent. How would he feel if someone violated his children's rights."

@freelancekenyan said:

"Huyo amezuia mwenzake kuwanyonga na nyahunyo juu tu ya camera."

@marcoBLKN said:

"I think the government intentionally makes the mistake of arming illiterate fellas. They can be used for anything but productivity for the nation. This shows how brainless these pigs are. They are more ready to fight unarmed citizens than go to war to protect us."

@DuffleBagBwoi said:

"You and those young ladies are heroes. And I really mean that. Bless you man!"

@njerimn said:

"Why are they smiling, as if they have done something good? Shame on them. Do they deserve the name officers?"
