Baggage Handler Reveals the Worst Bags for Air Travel-Including the One They Absolutely Hate

Published 9 hours ago3 minute read

A baggage handler has revealed insider details about the worst kind of suitcase you can carry to the airport. If you’re planning to buy new luggage for your next vacation or work trip, now is the time to pay attention to the expert advice and choose the right suitcase. Many people may pick their suitcase based on the aesthetic and space inside it.

While others may choose bright colors to stand out, there are confusing materials and designs, causing overwhelming feelings when picking the right one. Fortunately, an expert baggage handler has spoken about the do’s and don’ts of check-in baggage. A Reddit user who is employed at the airport to handle baggage asked for different queries.

One user asked him for tips to avoid a suitcase getting destroyed or lost. Besides, he also asked about the best and worst kind of suitcase. Just like any other piece of information online, the first thing Adam suggested was to add a name tag. He said they see a lot of identical bags on the same flight. So, adding a personalized tag with your name and address will help identify it. You may also use a strap around the bag that makes it stand out.

Pick a bag with good wheels to avoid damage. The ones that have a hard shell outside and a soft lining inside cause the least damage to your items. For the most hated suitcases, he said the damaged ones had one wheel or broken wheels. They are the worst to move. Plus, the ones that have small or broken handholds are hard to carry, too. Adam sided with a soft case bag, which is easy to stuff inside the airplane.

This is how my suitcase came off the belt today at Newark airport.

Zipper completely unzipped. They tried to use all kinds of excuses: zipper popped, Dubai does this, etc.

But it does make your valuables compressed. If you want to avoid that, go for hard shell ones. The hard shell ones are good for protecting fragile items and keeping everything in shape. So, according to him, pick a hard shell with four wheels.

Even two-wheel ones work when they are stacking and moving the suitcase around. Just avoid using the one with broken or stuck wheels. In case you’re wondering how broken ones are handled, they are mostly thrown around to save time and effort. Therefore, carrying the right suitcase will prevent your luggage from being thrown around. If you have a four-wheel bag but one wheel is seized up, it may be time to get it fixed or get a new one. These just fall over even after moving a short distance.

If you’re checking in luggage this summer (amid all the disruption) – it’s v sensible to place an Apple AirTag inside each bag 📶

Now you know what suitcase is right according to the expert handlers. Everyone takes TSA advice seriously when picking a TSA-approved suitcase, but also consider what handlers have to say now. This will ensure your luggage is safe and reaches the baggage claim in one piece. For more safety you may add an electronic tag to the luggage.
