Ahmedabad, India - May 12, 2025 A four-month-old baby girl succumbed to injuries after being mauled by a pet Rottweiler in a residential society. The incident occurred in Radhe Residency near Hathijan Circle, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, western India, on May 12. Visuals from the spot show the dog mauling both the baby and her aunt, who was left seriously injured, spreading chaos in society. According to reports, the brutal attack occurred around 9 PM when the dog broke free from its owner's control and fatally attacked the infant, pulling her from her aunt's arms in a common area of the residential society. The child, identified as Rishika, was out on a stroll with her maternal aunt when the incident occurred. According to civic authorities and eyewitnesses, the Rottweiler belonged to Dilip Patel, a resident of the same society. His daughter had taken the dog out for a walk while speaking on the phone. Distracted, she failed to restrain the animal, which was on a leash but not muzzled, when it suddenly turned aggressive. In moments, the dog charged at a group in the society’s garden area, causing panic. It first attacked the aunt, causing her to fall, and then violently grabbed the infant from her arms. Despite immediate efforts by residents to intervene and rush both victims to a nearby hospital, the baby succumbed to severe injuries to her neck and skull. The aunt was admitted with injuries. CCTV footage confirmed the speed and ferocity of the attack, leaving residents horrified. Following the incident, outraged residents of the society staged protests, accusing the dog owner of negligence. They claimed to have raised repeated complaints about the dog's aggressive behavior in the past, but said their concerns had gone unaddressed. Many alleged that the dog had a history of aggression and was often seen in common areas without adequate restraint. The baby’s uncle, Raju Dabhi, told police that this was not the first such incident involving the Rottweiler, stating that it was at least the third or fourth time the dog had behaved violently. He demanded strict legal action against the owner for what he called gross negligence. Initially, the infant’s father, Ajit Dabhi, who works with a private firm, was too distraught to file a formal complaint or allow a post-mortem of his daughter. However, Vivekanand Nagar police inspector H N Baria confirmed that the police were attempting to convince the family to initiate legal proceedings. “If required, we will exhume the …
