DUBAI (United Arab Emirates) - In a game already laced with meaning, Azbayar Altangerel delivered a performance for the record books - and for Mongolian basketball history.
The 20-year-old local hero scored 28 points on a perfect 11-for-11 shooting to lead the Broncos to an 84-79 win over hosts Shabab Al Ahli in the third-place game of the Basketball Champions League Asia (BCL Asia) 2025.

It marked the most field goals made without a miss in a single BCL Asia game over the past decade, and the most points scored in such fashion as well - eclipsing the previous mark of 22 points on 10-of-10 shooting by Quincy Douby in 2017.
But Altangerel’s night was about more than numbers. His flawless performance powered the Broncos to Mongolia’s first-ever BCL Asia medal, an achievement capping off one of the competition’s most inspiring team turnarounds.
Of all 11 field goals made, none were more important than a layup in the post with 1:11 left that pushed the lead to 84-77 and sealed the win.
It was Altangerel’s historic night that defined the moment - not only as a breakout for a young star, but as a beacon for Mongolian basketball's rising future.
"I'm really proud of our local players," Coach Erdene said. "Every game, every practice - they show up and do their best.”
Altangerel put that on display night and and night out throughout this entire season. He was second on the team in EFF (16.6) and scoring (12.6 points per game) during BCL Asia-East and third in rebounding (5.6 boards per contest) on the team. In Dubai, he continued to be productive with 11.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for 14.2 EFF.
But Friday night, the promising 20-year-old exceeded the expectations. He was perfect - and Mongolia walked away with a piece of continental glory.
