Pegula triumphed 6-1 4-6 6-3 in exactly two hours on court on Saturday, giving her the chance to replicate her Washington Open triumph in 2019.

Last year's US Open runner-up dominated a one-sided opening set with four breaks, but she had to dig deep after Tomljanovic rallied to force a decider.

Pegula took two of three straight breaks early in the third set, ensuring she will play in her 16th tour-level final on Sunday.

The world number four will face either fellow American and fifth seed McCartney Kessler, or Belgian Greet Minnen.

Speaking after her win, Pegula said: "We were a little hit or miss with our serves, it was pretty hot, the ball was kind of flying, but once I started serving a little more consistently, smarter... that was the key.

"Every final is new, it's the first time I've played here.

"Being in the U.S., I like doing well and I always want to show that I'm one of the best Americans, one of the best players in the world, so being able to do that on home soil is always special."
