Sam George Sacks Ghana Post Staff Over Irregular Recruitment

In a recent press conference held in Parliament on Monday, March 25, 2025, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, announced a significant staff rationalisation exercise within the Ministry and its associated agencies. The Minister revealed that nearly 100 staff members at Ghana Post Limited have been dismissed, with further terminations expected as part of an ongoing effort to streamline operations and eliminate irregularities in recruitment processes.
Mr. George stated that his decision was prompted by the discovery that approximately 600 individuals were recruited into the ministry and its agencies after the December 7, 2024, general elections. He described the situation as untenable and emphasised his commitment to ensuring that the ministry operates efficiently and effectively.
"Today, I have authorised the termination of a few more at Ghana Post, almost 100, that were done post-December 7. And we’ll continue this rationalisation," Mr. George stated during the press conference. He highlighted the necessity of reviewing these appointments to maintain good administrative practice and optimise the ministry's operational structure.
The Minister elaborated on the irregularities surrounding the recruitment processes, noting that many positions were filled without adherence to established protocols. This, he explained, led to inefficiencies and an inflated staff count, which he is determined to rectify.
"If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies, and you realise that almost 600 of them were recruited after December 7, basically, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such mess and continue with it," he asserted, underscoring the need for immediate and decisive action.
Mr. George affirmed his commitment to carefully reviewing each case to ensure fairness and adherence to administrative best practices. The overarching goal is to create a leaner, more efficient ministry capable of effectively carrying out its mandate.
This move aligns with a broader government initiative to revert irregular post-election employment across various public sectors. The government contends that many of these appointments did not follow due process, necessitating a comprehensive review and subsequent rationalisation.
The dismissals at Ghana Post and the ongoing review of staff appointments signal a firm stance against procedural irregularities and a commitment to optimising the efficiency of governmental operations. Minister Sam George has made it clear that his priority is to "clean up the ministry, make sure it is lean and efficient, and carry out its work."
