Atula declares interest for NWF presidency
Former Nigeria and World Wrestling Champion, Morris Atula has formally declared his intention to run for the presidency of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF).
Atula declared his intention at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on arrival from Europe Sunday morning.
Atula stated that he plans to relocate into Nigeria finally to pursue his heart desires of been wrestling supreme uno with the aim to run an all-inclusive board with the sole mission of repositioning wrestling in the country.
He lamented the nation’s poor outing at the Paris Olympics and promised that if elected as NWF president he will change the fortunes of the game for better and Nigeria will get podium appearance at the Los Angeles Olympics.
He hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in saddling sports affairs in the hands of Mallam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olopade as round peg in round hole.
“I want to be more present as president of NWF because I believe that the next president must be somebody who understands and has actually invested his energy and vision into wrestling. All former wrestlers are urging to come home and give the sports a new face. I have the international connection.
“Athletes are going to be my No 1 priority. I will also attract sponsors because I have the connections,” he said.
“I am coming to restore those glorious days when Nigeria used to be respected in the comity of wrestling- nations in Africa and the world.
“I will give priority to developmental programme” Atula said while promising that he will continue to consult with relevant stakeholders to actualize the ambition.
Elections into Sports Federation will take place later in the year with the National Sports Commission (NSC) expected to release the guidelines.
