Assistant coach Anderson Clarke leave Montana for High Point

MISSOULA — Montana men's basketball assistant coach Anderson Clarke is joining High Point University in the same role after seven seasons in Missoula, two trips to the NCAA tournament and four Big Sky Conference titles.

High Point head coach Flynn Clayman, who was promoted from associate head coach in April, had been in the Big Sky Conference while Anderson was at UM. He worked at Southern Utah as an assistant, associate and interim coach.

High Point, based in North Carolina, is coming off its first trip to the NCAA Division I tournament, where it lost to Purdue in the first round. The Panthers moved to Div. I and the Big South Conference in the 1999-2000 season.

"I'm excited to be joining the High Point Basketball Program, and the High Point University community," Clarke said in an HPU news release. "I am extremely grateful for Coach Flynn Clayman, Athletic Director Dan Hauser, and President Nido Oubein for this opportunity.

"I'm excited to contribute to a program with such a strong tradition, a clear vision for the future, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the court. Let's get to work."

Clarke spent the past two seasons as a UM assistant coach. The Grizzlies won the 2025 Big Sky regular season and conference tournament championships and advanced to the NCAA tournament, falling to Wisconsin in the first round.

He was the director of operations for two years before that after he spent his first three years as a graduate manager. UM won the 2019 regular season and tournament titles before falling to Michigan at the NCAAs in his first season.

Clarke, a native of Australia, had joined the Griz staff after he completed his playing career at NCAA Div. II Concordia University Irvine. He has followed in the steps of his father, Marty Clarke, who coached with the St. Mary's Gaels.

"Coach Clarke comes from a first-class Montana program, whom I competed against during my time in the Big Sky Conference," Clayman said in an HPU news release. "He has helped lead Montana to two NCAA tournament appearances during his time in Missoula.

"He also comes from a strong basketball family and has extensive knowledge of the game. We look forward to welcoming Anderson, his wife, Shelby, and their amazing family to High Point University."
