Arsenal open transfer talks with Lookman

Arsenal have begun discussions with Nigerian international Ademola Lookman over a potential move to the Emirates Stadium ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

According to AFTV, the Premier League club has made initial contact with the Atalanta winger as part of efforts to strengthen its attacking options. The Gunners are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer, aiming to address challenges in the final third of the pitch.

While Arsenal have posted one of the best defensive records in Europe over the last two seasons, their frontline has been less consistent. Current attacking options — Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Leandro Trossard — have faced scrutiny over their ability to deliver at the highest level.

Lookman, 26, has recorded 52 goals and 25 assists in 118 appearances for Atalanta across all competitions. The forward scored a hat-trick in the 2024 UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, leading Atalanta to their first European trophy and becoming the first player to score a treble in a Europa League final.

With just a year remaining on his contract, Lookman is understood to be open to a move this summer. Atalanta are reportedly seeking €60 million for the player, with interest also coming from Juventus, Napoli, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Barcelona.

Napoli, in particular, are reportedly advancing in talks, with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis said to be directly involved in negotiations. The Serie A champions are in the market for a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in January. Napoli are believed to have tabled a €50 million bid, and could include Giacomo Raspadori as part of the deal.

Despite the competition, sources close to Lookman suggest the player would welcome a return to England, where he began his professional career and maintains strong personal ties.

Lookman previously played for Charlton Athletic, Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City before moving to Italy in 2022.
